inspired by...

A lot of things have been going on in my head and I'm feeling inspired! I'm hoping that a lot of things will happen for me in 2013 but they won't just happen on their own, I've got to get them going. Style wise I want to add more colour to my life (I know, now that monochrome is coming into fashion again I turn my back on it). I was looking into my wardrobe the other day and I could not get over how many black skirts I owned. Black, black and white, black and grey, black and gold... a little bit one sided. So a colour injection (in the skirt department) is most definitely needed.

Also make up wise I have fallen in love with the fresh faced look, when your days are long you don't want smokey, smudgy eyes staring back in the mirror. I'm going to try some simple lipsticks, to keep me looking fresh. Not mad ones now but a red or soft coral or blush pink will go down nicely I think. Soups have become a little boring, same old veggie just isn't doing it for me. I want a bit of a kick and I have been drooling over these mexican inspired soups, full of good things and super tasty (I hope!)

I can't help but steal a few moments away to look at some new design work that's out there now, really interesting pieces that have been created without the need for computers (too much). This piece by Darren McPherson and Will Miller really has my creative flow racing! And finally I have been day dreaming about my future home. I think this year will be the year that I fly the nest and I really want to make my new (non-existant) place my own. I have commissioned (begged) my mam to make this blanket for my future abode! You know, something for the bottom drawer, as they say.

As always I have been inspired my the devil that is Pinterest. You can see for yourself that I have a problem.

further style inspiration...

The internet is a constant source of inspiration. You never know what or who you're going to get. This week I discovered this wondrous lady. Her name is Erin and her blog is Cali Vintage. And I simply adore her sense of style. She has a vintage chic style mixed with dashes of little girl cuteness. I mean what's not to love. She teams mini dresses with flat shoes and plays with her colours and her patterns, has simple but interesting make up, wears hats and has made me fallen in love with skinny strapped handbags (be prepared to see more of them on this blog).

There is something so playful and endearing about her outfits. Something I would love to bring to my own outfits. I feel I am not playful enough with what I wear. It is possibly my New Years resolution... Yes in fact I think it will be. A least that's one thing sorted.

posie...

Thought I'd share these STUNNING and super cute rings with you guys! They are from a British shop called Tatty Devine. I found these thanks to the blogger girls over at What Will I Wear Today. You guys know how much I love rings so you can understand my excitement, maybe not agree but at least understand. These rings are large, colourful and made out of perspex (which I think is really quirky). Needless to say I want them all and there are more... a white one, a purple-ish/navy one and a smokey gold one.

These babies will keep you on trend without breaking the bank, or look like you're trying too hard. And talk about a little bit of spring on your finger.

graphic monday...

This is a super cute typeface by Grayhood for Lost Type. Have you ever seen a typeface that makes you want to smile more? If so please do tell me! But seriously, ain't this precious? It looks like a font that would be used in an awesome/offbeat wedding invite of that cool couple you know. I think that's why I like it so much. It's retro, it's indie, it's GORGEOUS!

Also I love the colour choices... Yum!

This week I want to be dancing in gold glitter and suede, eating as many of these chocolate and peanut butter brownies as I can, staring at this beautiful print (oh how I want to stick it in a frame and love it completely), dressing to match the awakening of spring in this stunner of a dress and rocking the victory rolls like Zana Bayne of Garbage Dress.

On another note, who thought a PVC dress could look so demure???

These are poster designs from Amy Rodchester. She had to create posters for the Newcastle Festival of Dance. I really think her final solutions are AMAZING! But you know me, give me pastels, clean type and geometric shapes and I'm anybody's!

Check out more of her work here.

chiffon cake...

So yesterday was my fella's birthday... So as tradition, I went out with his family for a massive meal. I figured a meal with his family would be the perfect time to wear my new top. I bought it on Ebay from China. Tis a lovely top but it was being sold as a dress. I foolishly only looked at how it looked on the model and didn't read all of the measurements... silly me, that model must have been TEENY! Oh well, I still think it makes a lovely top, especially for those nights when you want to make a little bit of effort without looking too done up.

I was originally going to wear all black with this outfit but then I thought it could handle some happiness, some colour, some festiveness... So I wore red! These are the cutest shoes I own and are sadly getting horribly scuffed at the back so I keep putting lashings on clear nail polish on them. And then we come to the bag, which I thought finished off this outfit very well. I wanted to feel cute last night and what says cute more than a big heart-shaped handbag? Answers on a postcard...

busy bee...

Apologies for the lack of posting this week... But projects and essays and so forth are due and I have a portfolio to prepare. Which is actually what I wanted to share with you. Above are just some of the photos I took today. They are photos of my rough work/original designs and are for the research section of my portfolio. Proof (to you and the examiner) that I have been working hard and not just being a lazy so and so. Late nights were had (and not enjoyed) and tonight I am heading to the sack at a normal hour... and boy am I gonna love it!

I'm living life on the edge...

Fashion related post tomorrow or Saturday I hope!

ahoy!

I thought I'd post it before it got too far away from Halloween... Last week was my course's Halloween party and in true Rose Tinted Uncertainty fashion I went as a 1940s pin up sailor. I really wish I had a good picture of the whole dress because it is indeed my favourite dress. I'm sure I will make an excuse to wear it again and then there will be photos, I promise.

Anyway I thought you'd all be interested in my attempt at victory rolls. Tricky little buggers indeed! Mountains of hairspray and patience were used. I was happy with the results though and I am planning on mastering the art so I can wear my hair like this more often (without the teeny sailor hat of course). I also had little white gloves as well... I looked awfully cute!

scholar...

Felt all studious today walking into college with my satchel. Isn't it so pretty! My mum treated me to this a couple of months ago but I only received it last Thursday (they had a serious backlog). I know, she spoils me so. I've wanted one for so long so I was beside myself when it arrived. I'm seriously hoping this satchel will last me a very long time. I got one with a handle so I use it as a briefcase (a really odd and colourful briefcase) for when I am all grown up and in the big bad world.

The only problem is that I'm really precious with the satchel because it's so new, shiney and awesome. I've a fear that I'll get it scratched... Its a terrible fear indeed. I keep smelling it too, odd I know but I do love the smell of leather (don't lie, you do too). The colour is just gorgeous as well, a wonderful way to add a punch of colour during these winter months.

Here are some designs that were created for Wrangler Denim. I love the relaxed and playful vibe of the whole thing. Yet even though it feels relaxed there is a uniformity to it all, within the repetition and colours, making it balanced.

I really like this style. Playful but not fussy. Its expressive without being too in your face (even though the type is MASSIVE.) Plus the idea that it is all done on corrugated metal just makes it better, stops it from becoming flat.

Love, love, love.

wish I was wearing #4

Jaysus there is a serious nip in the air! People are wearing gloves and hats and all that jazz. I'm sitting here working away with the heating on. Last week that would have been unspeakable. Luckily, I love when the weather gets cold. You get the chance to pair things that you normally wouldn't with the wonderful excuse "sure it was freezin' and I had nothing else!"

Cable knit sweaters, soft scarves and chunky brogues (with socks of course) are all necessary staples I need for the next few days (or weeks, probably months). And then all I need (want) is a big dose of colour! I think that would keep me happy and warm.

graphic monday...

Here is the cover design for a magazine called Novum, but as you can see the cover is a little bit special. Hundreds of tiny triangles make up the cover, creating a beautiful effect.

So beautiful, in every way... Colour, type, technique. Even if you are not a designer you can still appreciate the colour palette. Colour blocking is in this season.

Gorgeous!

colour...

So as you all know I'm easing colour back into my monochrome wardrobe. To be honest I just think I don't have any autumnal coloured garments. They are either really dark/black or really bright and fresh. I've no items of clothing that are deep and vibrant. So I think a few key pieces are a need to keep me from becoming too dependent on black and white. The colours that I think I will stick to are burgundy, green and mustard: autumnal and rich.

I wouldn't mind to find any (or all) of these pieces in wardrobe in the coming weeks...
