Graphic Monday...

So Graphic Monday is back for a new year... I thought I'd start it off with something I found while I was doing some college research. This is the branding for the city of Melbourne, it was created by Landor...

"The challenge was to reflect City of Melbourne’s cool sophistication on the world stage, capture the passion of its people, and provide the city with a unified, flexible, and future-focused image. The new identity needed to overcome political complexities, improve the cost-effectiveness of managing the brand, and unite the disparate range of entities (including the council, City of Melbourne’s destination brand, and an ever-growing portfolio of different initiatives, programs, services, events, and activities)." 

That's an awful lot!

I think it looks brilliant, cool, fresh, fun (and a bunch of other adjectives that are good)!

Graphic Monday

Forgive me on the uncreative post name but sure it does the job.

Anyway, I have noticed quite a few blogs devoting a day to a special post and I feel I should do this for graphic design. It is the course I am doing after all and I do want this blog do deal with graphic design as well as my obsession with fashion. Also it gives me a good excuse to jump head first into the imagery I find and learn more about the world in which I now live in. My lecturers are always going on about how being familiar with this kind of stuff is very important for us. Do forgive me if you have no interest in it. But you never know you might find a pretty picture to inspire you in some way (and that's always nice).

Each Monday I hope to post about something to do with graphic design, a designer, a movement, a magazine spread or maybe just a logo...

I found these images on Graphic Exchange and I just thought they were just so simple and raw. I love them. The owner of the blog took these in a letterpress workshop in the Design College of Australia.

Graphic Exchange...

I was recommended a blog by a lecturer to help with my research and it is such a beautiful site... It is called Graphic Exchange. It is full of different designs, imagery, type and packaging... If you have any interest in graphic design or photography have a look at this site. Well worth it!

Raygun...

It is the summer and I am not in college, and since I am not in college at the moment my mind has neglected the graphic design part of my brain. I need to rectify this by finding some really good graphic design blogs, I'm still searching (if you know any please let me know).

The spreads above are from the magazine "Raygun" that I found on the net. "Raygun" was a alternative rock and roll magazine, which ran from 1992 to 2000.

I had first come across the magazine and its glorious spreads while writing my essay on postmodernism (so I just had to put the magazine on the blog). The magazine explored typography and ended up with some brilliant if not slightly disorientated designs.

I don't know exactly who designed these spreads (if you know please tell), but sure they are cool to look at... So enjoy the oddity that are these spreads!

Shamelessly wanting your love...

I have realised that, between google, facebook and bloglovin, I have 76 followers! Thank you! I have also noticed my closest friends and family have followed me twice (but I only counted them once he he).

Positive thinking...

I am a worrier... It is as simple as that. I weigh myself down with problems that can't be solved and make myself get upset when there really is no point. And why do I do this to myself??? Bigger question is why do people create problems in my life that can't be solved? All I know is that I don't need hassle like that... I have people who care for me and make me feel loved. I should focus on that. But will I? I'll certainly try, may not be successful... Good thoughts will conquer.

Good thoughts in mind I got my results for college today. I passed everything! Woot! I did quite well and I am very proud of myself...

More good thoughts, I was awarded "the sweetest follower" award by the utterly darling Erin from My Wildflower Wardrobe, this girl has got the style and chicness of someone five to ten years her senior (when I was her age I was in jeans and t-shirts). Truly a girl to be reckoned with and I simply love her and her blog! A huge. massive, very very very big thank you to her.

Keep those good thoughts coming life!

Deserted, left with my lace...

I found these images off the amazing blog that is Knightcat and I just had to put them up... Firstly because I love love LOVE the outfits in the photos, the heavy, cream lace, the black tulle, the soft and loose jersey and, the bleached denim! Secondly because I love the images themselves, the softness to them, the light, the set, the poses... well everything! And thirdly I love the story in the images (well the story I read from them). This girl abandoned in this giant, old mansion with nothing but her clothes and she wanders around the mansion afraid to leave but forever dreaming of the outside world... I may be reading into the imagery too much.

I was browsing through my daily dose of blogs (not much else to do on a lazy Sunday) and I came across these delightful images by Tim Walker on Laura Cunningham's blog... I just had to share them with you.... they are a mixture of fashion and fantasy and I think they are just beautiful! Everything in these images are so whimsical and interesting and so dreamlike. I am dying to recreate the dress lanterns from the last image. Wouldn't it be a beautiful way to light a night garden party? Let me know what you think? Do you have a favourite? Please share!

So dotey...

I was on Google just now and the image that was up to brighten up our day was this little beauty... I just had to post it so you could all see it (if of course you haven't been on Google already today.) On the count of three everyone say ahhhhh...

Fashion illustrations....... with a bit of a twist...

Another artist that I adore is the illustrator Andrea Kett... Her work is so gothic meets satire and I just love it... I have never seen anything like them, my sister introduced her work to me with a paper bag that my Christmas present came in and it was love at first sight... I beg you to go and look up more of her work.... GO NOW!

The Glamorous Artist...

My favourite artist is Tamara deLempicka so I just had to put up some of her work... As you can see she was such an elegant and glamorous woman and her work striking and magnificent... I especially love how she painted curls, they look like they're made of metal... Love her and her work too...
