So this Thursday one of my best friends is getting hitched (finally!), I am so excited for her and have been looking forward to this day all year!
My dress has finally arrived, I'm fairly certain what I'm doing with my make up and the boyfriend is kitted out nicely as well. All that's left to concern myself with is my hair. I like my hair down for special occasions and I like to give it a little body/height. In fact my hair dresser told me I needed body! But I still don't want it terribly fussy, something that can be easily fixed if a gush of wind comes out of nowhere or if I get trampled on the dance floor. And, of course, a little bit vintage-esque, to match the dress. So off I went to Pinterest to see what inspiration lay in store for me.
And this is what I've come up with, A gentle side sweep with a slight bit of lift in the back (not too, just enough). Thankfully my hair is already curly but I might give it a helping hand to keep the curls big. Couple of hair pins and some hair spray and I should be good to go. I am going to practice the hair tonight to make sure I can actually do it (nothing worse than a hair disaster the morning of a big event).
Wish me luck!

Well it's been one of those weeks where I feel like I've achieved nothing but I am okay about it. It's my last week off before I start work and it'll be a long time before I can lounge about again. Anyway, all this lounging about has lead to me feeling inspired about many things...
The weather has me wanting to walk in the autumn air and hear the crunch of the leaves beneath my feet (except on wet days like today). I feel like covering myself in wool and plaid and just going all country! My new job has me thinking about eventually moving out of my parents house and into a place of my own, this new home will be pale grey all over with colourful accents of red, yellow, babypink, blue and green. Even though I am miles away from a marriage of my own I can't help but indulge myself and let the mind wander when I see beautiful images online of weddings. I love the white heart tights and the little shoe boots, so unique. I have been browsing through vintage style typography for some work and I always love coming across some on shop fronts (makes me want to own a shop of my own)... Finally, ever since I had guacamole two weeks ago I have been dying to try avocado in something else. And since I looooove egg salad I thought that would be a fine place to start... I'll let you know how it goes.
What has been on your mind this week?

bash...
My friend Christina and I went for a ramble down to Kilkenny to have a gawk and wander around The Silver Factory's First Birthday Bash... There was Diet Coke (in metal bottles?) and cake and gift vouchers and tattoos and bindis and black balloons galore! Packed with people even into the later hours when we arrived and filled with stunning Silver Factory pieces! There was such a buzz about the place, people talking and laughing, brilliant music being played and of course there was the continuous and uncontrollable browsing of the fantastic collection. My favourite pieces and still the loose-necked tshirts, which by the way are made of the most super soft fabric imaginable! It goes without saying that I cannot wait to see the A/W 2012 collection. Hopefully it'll be coming out really soon
Also going to the birthday bash was a great excuse to visit Shutterbug, probably my favourite vintage shop in Ireland. I always get a kick out of it when I go in there, filled with sequined EVERYTHING, turquoise rings, silk scarves, Silver Factory tees, beautiful wooly knits, the softest of leather pieces and now the Bonzie collection which is even more beautiful in real life!
Fair play to Cameron for putting the whole thing together and to Blanaid and her gang for helping out. It's always lovely to have something like that to go to on a cold Saturday.

preppy summer...
The work I am doing at my internship requires a certain level of comfort. There is a lot of standing and bending and leaning and walking around (and some sitting but that's not the issue). So for the past few weeks I have not been dressing in the most exciting of ways... My inspiration has been low key, comfortable, simple and cooling (my office is so hot). And my heel heights have certainly decreased (but I make up for that on the weekends). And with the weather being so unpredictable it sometimes feels like I'm playing a never ending game of fashion roulette! Luckily I don't think I'm losing, it's definitely a draw at the very least.
The past couple of days jeans and a cute top have been the order of the day. Yesterday was my lumberjack shirt and converse and today I am coming over all preppy and donned some stripes to match my satchel (without really meaning to – I just got a little lucky). I wore an outfit very similar to this in the winter months. Same top, same jeans, same ring... Just a different (more summer friendly) pair of shoes. It's nice to know that there are items like these that can be worn no matter what the season.

graphic tuesday?
*I do realise that I usually post graphic design shtuff on a Monday but sure it was a day off, so I posted about something else. Anyway back to college and back to graphic design.
A nice little typeface we got here! It is a "layered" typeface which I think means you develop the type any way you desire, whether you use all the parts or just one! A really cool idea which allows you to be far more experimental if you wish. It's cheerful, it's fun and it's retro... What more do you need to know?

style@set...
Affordable Vintage is the theme of this year’s Absolut Style at Set weekend in Langton House Hotel, Kilkenny on the 7th and 8th of April. Continuing on their trend for testing the concept of a fashion weekend, the Style at Set team are introducing a Vintage Kilo Sale – transforming the ballroom in to a shop with no price tags – only weighing scales. Talk about exciting! Shoppers will be provided with bags which they can fill with as much or as little as they like from the rails upon rails of vintage clothes, all sourced by Blanaid Hennessy. Once they’re satisfied with their swag, the bags are weighed, and charged at a cost of just €20.00 per kilo. Easy Peesy!
The sale begins at 11am on Saturday the 7th of April. Blanaid does stress that shoppers try and come as early if possible to avoid disappointment. However they will be replenishing the stock on Sunday morning, so those that have to work on Saturday don’t miss out on some amazing pieces.
Entry is free in to the event, which will be complemented by a health and beauty area and other fashion related events taking place over the weekend. In keeping with tradition, they will also be hosting two big club nights in the Set theatre, featuring 90’s tribute band ‘Smash Hits’ and more.

pin up...
I'm sure you all now at this stage that I have an insane love for shoes and an insane love anything retro. So you can understand that when I have a proper trawl through Pin Up Girl Clothing that I was totally excited and raging that I have no real spare cash for a new pair (maybe for my birthday.) It had the cutest collection of shoes that ranged from the highest of heels to the most dotey of little flats. Here are just a few of the pairs that I want, I must stress it is only a handful of what I want, there were simply too many to pick from. Not only do I love the shape of these dresses but I love the little quirks of them that make them different to your average high street shoes. If you do pop in check out the dress section as well, they have dresses to die for...
Funnily enough the majority of the shoes I picked were from one shop known as Pin Up Couture. Must be my taste, they had the most "pin up style" in their shoes in my opinion. Thankfully their shoes are also sold on this of the pond so no nasty shipping and tax costs. You just got search for them.
If you're like me and love pencil skirt dresses, red lippy and that elegant curved heel then you are gonna love this website. Just be careful not to get too carried away...

indecision...
I sometimes find Saturday difficult to dress for. Technically it is no different to any other day since I am in college. All that changes is that I do my college work from home (ugh business plan). So why do I feel the need to make a differentiation from this day to all the rest? Am I that desperate for a weekend? I often try to think of really casual outfits to prove that this is indeed my day off. But then I just feel lazy, so I put on heels. I think until I actually have a full time job I will suffer with this conundrum.
On a different matter, I threw on this jacket and scarf to take these photos. But I think when I head out later I will have to wear a much heavier coat. As gorgeous as this jacket is, it ain't keeping me as warm as I'd like.

graphic monday...
How darling is this poster... How awesome is this poster! It was designed by Boris Pelcer for "The Roaring Twenties" themed 20th Annual Montessori de Terra Linda Auction, established with the intent of raising crucial funds for M.d.T.L. independent school in San Rafael in California.
I just love everything about it... The colour scheme is striking with that punch of red but still understated. The illustration is simply a work of art, even in the close up. And normally I wouldn't choose a hugely stylized font like that Art Deco one because I feel it just has to be used appropriately. But thankfully he didn't over used it and paired it with that really quirky typeface. And, of course, it has a vintage feel while still staying modern.
Overall I love it! Hope you do to...

blog inspiration...
My latest blog addiction is this cutey pie of a blog called A Beautiful Mess... And what a beautiful mess it is! It is a serious feast for the eyes. Full to the brim with gorgeous outfits, delicious looking recipes and quirky DIYs, you will not know where to start with this blog and you will not want to stop. The blog belongs to the dotey Elsie Larson, co-owner of Red Velvet, an amazing shop so get looking. She has friends that contribute beautiful things to her blog, such as recipes, how to hairstyle posts and random (yet gorgeous) DIY projects. Honestly, there is something for everyone.
I want her home, I want her entire wardrobe, I want her hair, I want her bike and I wanna get baking after reading this blog. It is so colourful, fussy, fun and down right fabulous. It has elements of a vintage lifestyle but with loads of modern twists, this girl is not afraid to have fun with fashion, with food or with life. Definite inspiration to beat those winter blues!

If only I was remotely intelligent... If only...
But I can make a pretty picture.
Moving along, look how colourful my outfit is? Red, navy, yellowy-green, taupe? I'm like frickin' rainbow! Who'd have thought I wouldn't wear black at all! I don't remember the last time that happened. Really don't think it'll last, winter months really bring out the darker shades in me. Colour is for the days of warmth and sunshine. In my books anyway.

luck be a lady...
I've been feeling all lady like the past few days, haven't been dressing like a lady but most certainly wishing I could purchase a few dainty dresses, or like the whole plus size collection in Modcloth. I was so delighted to see that Modcloth are now doing my size. I am always drooling over their vintage style designs and now I am one step closer to owning something from this beautiful shop. Their dresses are just so amazing, girly and quirky. There is something so different about them, feminine yet eye-catching. Safe to say that I want them all! Just gotta start saving those pennies....
The only problem is these dresses don't really suit college life. One does not have the time to get dolled up to nines when you are rushing into a nine o'clock. Life would be so much simpler if I had the time to be a lady. Am looking forward to being able to dress all pretty and proper everyday of the week when I'm out in the big bad world. No suits for me! No sir!

suit up!
I had a busy morning ahead of me when I got up this morning (briefs due and the likes) so I felt that comfort was the solution. Practicality is key when you are running around like a headless chicken. So I decided to stick on some tailored black trousers (though I seriously need to take them in-yay!) and dress them down with beat up converse, a quiff and a plain white tee. Once ready I realised I had dressed like Ellen DeGeneres so I couldn't help but dance while printing off my work in class (much to the amusement of my friends).
I have also come to the realisation that I am constantly wearing black and white (tomorrow is no exception) and I beginning to worry that I must be looking terribly dark and moody. I swear I am happy as a clam, I just love monochrome. But I do feel I should breathe a bit of life and colour back into my day to day wardrobe. Colour-blocking is still a key trend and I did try on gorgeous bright pink trousers and then equally gorgeous orange suede wedge ankle boots in Penneys ( I am seriously tempted by the boots, maybe if I spot them back home).
Does anyone else get into a colour palette rut like me? I have a sneaking suspicion it's a seasonal thing.

breakfast at tiffany's...
When I was putting this outfit together in my head (don't judge me - I know you all do it too) I thought how similar this whole look was to Audrey Hepburn's look from the scene in Breakfast at Tiffany's where she is knitting.
You know the one...
Except for some reason I don't look nearly as happy. It's not I'm not happy I just like being moody in pictures (ahem, adds to the cool ya know) and according to the great Sara Devine I "do moody well."
In other news, I LOVE these leggings/treggings/whatever-you-call-them! I wouldn't call them leggings really because they are thick (yay!) but they are super stretchy and high waisted like leggings. Whatever they are I love them. They are a God send. I have been living in them. I should really buy a second pair.

smooth dizziness...
I also become slightly obsessed with giant rings (as you may have noticed). Have bought two alone in the past week! Am really creating quite a collection. I really think they add an edge to any outfit, even the most basic/average one. So I think they are gonna become something of a staple for me, especially in college. If I can't look awesome at least my fingers will!
